Every state writes its own CTE standards. We have already done the crosswalk for all fifty.
Proving a program meets its standards is real work, and it is work that gets redone in every district, every year, in a spreadsheet nobody enjoys maintaining. When a course changes, or the standards get revised, or a teacher moves districts, it gets redone again.
MICE maintains that mapping centrally — for IT, Media Design, and Business Administration, in every state. It is the part of this you should not have to build.
What we mean by aligned
“Aligned” gets used loosely. Here it means three specific things, and all three ship with the course — none of them is a document you have to assemble yourself.
- Program standards and competencies. Each course maps to the standards your state actually measures you against. Cross a state line and the mapping changes; the course does not.
- Career Ready Practices. The employability skills sit inside the coursework rather than being bolted on as a unit at the end, where they get cut first when the year runs short.
- Industry certification alignment. Courses are built against the certification objectives themselves — so “covered the standard” and “ready for the exam” are the same work rather than two competing plans.
Built to be taught
Alignment on paper is worth nothing if the course does not survive contact with a real classroom. Every MICE course carries the same three things:
- Hands-on labs. Students configure the thing, break the thing, and fix the thing. Reading about a subnet has never taught anyone to subnet.
- Custom assessments. Checks along the way, so a teacher finds out a student is lost in week three rather than at the certification attempt.
- Data reporting. Evidence the program is working, in the form your administration asks for when they want to know what the money bought.
What is actually built
Not a roadmap. Not a licensing agreement with someone else’s catalog. Thirty-three courses, written and built, sitting in the LMS today:
For scale: CompTIA A+ on its own is 24 modules and 368 pages. Introduction to C++ is 21 modules and 428. These are courses, not slide decks.

Every course names the certification it targets — CompTIA A+, Security+ (SY0-701), Cisco CCNA 200-301, MOS Excel Expert, FAA Part 107 — rather than gesturing at a subject area. The programming and web courses are pitched at first-year university (CS1) and align to the Gaddis sequence, so a dual-enrolment student is not doing a watered-down version of the college course.
